Claire Turner Interviews Gov. Gregoire About the Capitol Christmas Tree

Today Claire Turner, reporter with 4-H Network News, interviewed Gov. Christine Gregoire about the recent harvesting of the Capitol Christmas Tree from the Olympic Peninsula U.S. Forest. Claire helped document this special event as this is the first time that the Capitol Christmas Tree has been donated from Washington State. The tree will now be taken on tour around Washington State and then across the country to Washington D.C. where it will stand as a symbol of the wonderful natural environment of Washington State.

Capitol Christmas Tree 2006: PSA #1

powered by ODEO

Oregon provided the Capitol Christmas tree in 2002.
Idaho in 2003.
Virginia in 2004.
And New Mexico last year shipped a 80-foot Engelmann Spruce 1,816 miles to Washington D.C.

This year Washington State is giving the nation's Capitol a magnificent 45-year-old Pacific Silver fir that grew naturally on a steep bank above the headwaters of the Wynoochee River in the Olympic National Forest.

Happy Holidays! I’m Claire Turner with 4-H Network News.
Our internet news site is video blogging this historic event from chainsaw to woodchips.

Governor Gregoire said in our digitally recorded interview on Nov. 6, that “we are sharing with the entire country one of the finest trees we have in Washington state so they can see just how gorgeous Washington state is…”

The Capitol Christmas Tree: Claire Talks About The Day She Interviewed Governor Gregoire

On Monday, November 6, 2006, 4-H Network News 8-year-old Ace Reporter Claire Turner woke up at 5am because she had an appointment with Washington State Governor Christine Gregoire in Olympia. Jack Olmsted chats with Claire about the day.

This is the car that was traveling in front of the Jefferson County 4-H van. The driver fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into the guard rail on the other side of the road. Two cars hit the drivers car traveling in the opposite direction.

Claire asked Governor Gregoire four questions during the video taped interview in the capitol conference room.
